After certain lessons, ahem Mathematics, my students' brains are mush! This is where brain breaks come in. Brain breaks do what it says on the box, they give the students' brain a break. It's an opportunity for students to get their groove on and stop thinking for a few minutes. It loosens the limbs and gets the heart pumping and oxygen flowing before the next cognitively demanding task.
There are a number of ways to nurture those noggins. My favourite though, is GoNoodle.
Go Noodle is a fantastic website that has a large variety of free Brain Break videos to choose from.
When you open the site, it will ask you to create a free account. This isn't to send you spam mail, it just keeps track of your class' progress. Your class can choose an avatar and every time you complete a brain break video, your avatar grows a little.
Once you're in, there are a number of different ways to find a video. You can explore, search by channel or search by category. As you can see, there are a number of different types of categories and channels to choose from.
Whether you need to calm down after break, get some energy out in a rainy break, take a break between subjects or find your centre before a test, GoNoodle is for you. Even my High School students loved it!
